EXTENSION EDUCATION

The Directorate of Extension Education not only refines technologies and disseminates knowledge to farming community through a network of KVKs in various    agro-climatic zones; it also provides feed back to the research system for finding solution to the farmer’s problems. It operates in the principle of teaching & learning by doing and enables farmers to acquire up-to-date skills to boost up production in farming sector. Transfer of knowledge is carried out through 31 Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVK) situated in different districts of the state, University Extension Block Programme (UEBP), Information and Communication wing, Distance Education, Video Project, Agricultural Technology Information Centre (ATIC) and Orissa Gender Resources Centre (OGRC) in the main campus.

 

EXTENSION HIGHLIGHTS

  • The University organizes in-service training programmes for capacity building of different categories of officers and field functionaries of agriculture and allied departments and NGOs through Krishi Vigyan Kendras and Directorate of Extension Education.
  • The University conducts vocational trainings for farmers, farm women, rural youths and school dropouts through different KVKs.
  • The University organizes large scale On-farm testing and Front Line Demonstrations on agriculture and related aspects for quick spread of latest technologies.
  • The University has conducted 1813 trainings involving participation of 44,840 farmers and farmwomen, 379 trainings for 6339 rural youth and 212 trainings for 3158 extension functionaries during last year.
  • Through the KVKs 7648 soil samples and 650 water samples were analyzed to facilitate the farmer’s with regard to proper application of fertilizers.
  • University facilitated for development of about 210 spawn production and 35,000 mushroom production units in the state.
  • Publication of different farm literatures, bimonthly Odiya magazines, KVK newsletter and popular articles are regular activities of the extension directorate of the university.
  • Single window delivery system for supply of agricultural inputs, technology and information to farmers has been developed through Agricultural Technology Information Centre (ATIC). The farmers are being immensely benefited through ATIC.
  • University Extension Block Programme operating in Puri and Khurda districts carries out field validation of new technologies, farm advisory services, identification and documentation of field problems and conduct of Rural Agricultural Work Experience (RAWE) for students.
  • Distance Education Programme is being carried out in the University through enrolment of farmers (13,440) in ten different major areas viz. Paddy cultivation, Vegetable cultivation, Fruits cultivation, Betelvine cultivation, Groundnut cultivation, Pisciculture, Dairy farming, Honey bee keeping, Poultry rearing and Mushroom cultivation.
