RAWE programme

The Rural Agricultural Work Experience programme is offered during the 1st Semester of 4th Year B.Sc.(Ag). It involves an orientation programme for one week in the college where the students are apprised of extension activities in field condition, research activities in various Research Institutes and methods of host-farmer analysis in village attachment programme. The students undergo village attachment programme for six weeks in allotted villages. Experiential learning courses are offered by various disciplines of College of Agriculture, Chiplima where the students get a hands-on training on various activities like mushroom cultivation, post harvest management, soil testing, organic farming and seed testing  for  a period of six weeks. After completing their experiential learning courses, the students are evaluated through presentation of their projects and appearing for the Grand viva voce.

  • New Course Curriculum as recommended by the Fifth Deans’ Committee would be implemented from 2016-17 after approval by the university.

Research Achievements :

International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) funded IRRI project on ‘‘Improved rice crop management for raising productivity in submergence prone and salt affected rainfed low lands in South Asia.” operated in College of Agriculture, Chiplima, Sambalpur, Odisha. The objective is to conduct research on agronomic management for improving productivity of rice under submergence prone areas. Hence the research on agronomic management of submergence prone lowlands was conducted in the instructional farm of College of Agriculture, Chiplima during 2011 and 2012. Dr. Stephan Haefele, Scientist, IRRI was the project leader of this project and Dr. U. S. Singh, IRRI-India, New Delhi was the coordinator for South Asia.

The following research activities are undertaken in this project:

  1. Nursery management for enhanced survival of SWARNA SUB 1 introgressed genotypes of rice for submergence prone areas.
  2. Nitrogen management for quick after submergence recovery.
